Watoto
Children's Choir - Concert of Hope 2010
"Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in
your power to act."(Proverbs 3:27)
"He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the alien,
giving him food and clothing."(Deuteronomy 10:18)
Watoto Children's Choir will be touring
in Hong Kong between 6th October to 3rd November, 2010 for
"Concert of Hope" aiming to
share the great work of God through the church raising up future leaders with
hope in the hopeless country of Uganda, and to
raise funds for
Watoto Child Care Ministries. A symbolic figure of 15 millions AIDs orphaned
children, Watoto Children's Choir has been regularly touring in US, Canada, UK
and Australia since 1994.
Accompanied by a
small team of adults from their home church Kempala Pentecostal Church,
Watoto's musical performances are a soulful blend of native African rhythms,
contemporary gospel music and ethnic dance, which significantly revealed their
vision
and mission. Aged between 6 and 13, all children are survivors
of wars, poverty and starvation and have sadly lost their parents to war
casualty or AIDs.
In response to the critical needs of AIDs orphaned children,
Pastor Gary Skinner and his wife established Watoto Child Care Ministries in
1994. According to Pastor Skinner, Uganda is now the only country in the
world that has the highest success rate in fighting AIDs. The death rate from
AIDs has been greatly reduced from 53% to 5%. This is achieved partially due
to continual efforts from the Government and churches but also the wide
acceptance from the people. These days, people no longer resist and
discriminate AIDs patients, but instead people love, care and accept them.
Mr. & Mrs. Skinner teach and raise the orphaned children
through the love of God. They provide the parentless children with food,
shelter and education, and a safe and comfortable home environment. Living
with a new family who
cares for their physical, emotional and spiritual needs, it is to ensure that
they are being raised in loving and healthy environment. The ministry strives
to nurture them to be the future generation of Uganda to live a purposed
life and be the living testimonies of God.
Only the love of God can change future of these children.
Priscilla, one of the children members, shared with us her story, "My parents
died of AIDs, I lost my home and family, food is a huge problem. Everyone
here cares for me so that I have a home, food to eat, clothes to wear and
school to attend." Poverty and helpless past have not shadowed her with
shame. She smiled brilliantly, "I thank Lord for His provision - I can now
sing and share," The power of love and care definitely radiated through the
face of Priscilla.
As the church on earth that reveals love and justice of God, we can respond to
their needs through our actions and resources. From 6th October to
3rd November 2010, Watoto Children's Choir will be performing in
several churches in Hong Kong. For concert details, please refer to the below
